I’m gonna try blogging @ rezzing

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

Updating a blog used to be easy, until social media came along and effed it all up. By that, I mean that each and ever network and conversational hub became a virtualized pub of conversation and people.

Oddly, however, I spend plenty of time reading topic-oriented blogs– notsomuch people.

Maybe I’ll give that a shot.

One night, I was arbitrarily looking up domain names and discovered that rezzing.com was available– something I’m sure was taken when I registered rezzing.tv. No matter, I reg’d it (and already have corresponding usernames on various grids with it, including Twitter), got Wordpress up and running, and will probably treat it as something a bit more topical and less about me (not that I’ve been overtly ME ME ME, but seriously, I’m not that interesting– but the stuff I love *is*).

It will be slow, but that’s what comes with starting from scratch. http://rezzing.com will be a new starting place for me and the topics that are on my mind.

Bank phishing notice

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED FAKE BANK EMAILS THAT BROUGHT YOU HERE: I’ve been alerted about some bank phishing scam sites that originate from my domain. My internet service provider is investigating the compromise of my site, and I’m naturally cooperating with them and law enforcement, as well.

Phishing scams against banks are on the rise in these troubled economic times. If you ever receive correspondence from your bank that is remotely suspicious– or if the web address doesn’t jive– call your bank immediately and get your passwords changed.

My 2009 Predictions

Thursday, January 1st, 2009

I don’t have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It’s a depression. Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel’s worth; banks are going bust; shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter; punks are running wild in the street, and there’s nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there’s no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. And we sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that’s the way it’s supposed to be!

We all know things are bad — worse than bad — they’re crazy.

It’s like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don’t go out any more. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we’re living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, “Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials, and I won’t say anything. Just leave us alone.”

Well, I’m not going to leave you alone.

I want you to get mad!

I don’t want you to protest. I don’t want you to riot. I don’t want you to write to your Congressman, because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street.

All I know is that first, you’ve got to get mad.

You’ve gotta say, “I’m a human being, goddammit! My life has value!”

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell,

“I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!!”

In the weeks before Christmas…

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

…I have:

a. acquired an orphan Betta fish who is doing quite well in his new non-Betta-ish home
b. had every piece of furniture moved into bathrooms and carpeted rooms (including the Christmas tree) as the entire house’s hardwood floors are being sanded, stripped, stained (and 3 rooms de-carpeted and new hardwood put in)
c. introduced a new dog, a sweet Chihuahua stray who we have named “Tiki”
d. finally kicked that ridiculous, month-long bug that’s been going around getting people sick
e. had my first idiotic run in with the TSA at an airport in Austin, because they had never seen the printed boarding pass I was using before

In January, I’m sleeping a lot.

Publishing in the pocket

Friday, December 5th, 2008

I haven’t used the wordpress app on the iPhone in a while, so I figured I’d give it another go. That picture had no significance, by the way, other than being a pinball machine screen at an arcade.

I’m on the road, having experienced too cold and too perfect weather…in Florida, of all places. Temperatures this week hit the 40s at night– not super cold for some, but seriously–Florida!

Enough babble from me, time to check this on the bigger screen. Incidentally, if anyone accesses these posts on an iPhone, the formatting is friendlier for the device and use of thumbs. ;)

The spam on the web finds YOU

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

The last couple of posts here about a video game that’s closing in 2009, have garnered a fair share of pings from sites that pretend to be normal blog sites citing the articles I wrote. Of course, these sites are all keyword generated– which means because I mentioned something in the post, the spam blogs (splogs) were triggered.

Ah, bad auto-pilot. Gotta love it. Seriously, you can try this too. Simply write any post on your own site and mention World of Warcraft, and you will see the pingbacks come in.

Now, spammers. Get offa mah lawn.

Tap that ass, er, post

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Like many iPhone owners who use Wordpress (the software used to post to this site), I couldn’t resist the urge to tap out a post with the free, open source version of Wordpress for the iPhone.

So far, so good! I can compose a post and save it locally, which works for me since I don’t always have a strong signal from AT&T. True, tapping with one or two thumbs isn’t the most practical way to pen my latest masterpiece essay (LOL), but it does exactly what I (and other wordpress users) have wanted for a while now.

Great job, Wordpress people!

Update on /spin mobile compatibility

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

I had originally formatted this part of the site to work on every single mobile platform worth mentioning, but the problem was, it sucked for the desktop users, as well as sucking for me when posting oversized things like YouTube videos.

I went back to a format that works decent enough on things like the Playstation and iPhone.

However, the good news! The part that was the most popular, was the music download site KSSX, now subtitled Radio Free Saijo. THAT will use the template previously found here. It worked great for the consistent posts that came from routine posting of MP3s. So, it will continue.

Sorry for the back-and-forth. You’d think after years of doing this kind of thing, I’d have figured it out by now. But I’m artsy. Sue me. :P
